For the past several years, I have been painting and drawing full-time after a successful career working as a graphic designer and art director. My preferred way to work is outdoors- en plein air - where I strive to capture the spirit of a place, in an impressionistic andcolorist style.
I have found my true love of subject matter in Maine. Born and raised in New York, I have been coming to Maine since childhood, exploring and painting in the places my father’s family originated from: Waldoboro, Wells and Augusta.
Having a deep appreciation for the natural beauty in the state, I search out unique views of waterfalls, mountain vistas, and seaside cliffs. Often, I will hike with supplies and draw or paint from the trail. One of my favorite painting experiences was at Katahdin Lake in
Baxter State Park, where I painted Katahdin,“the greatest mountain,” on the same beach as Marsden Hartley, one of my favorite artists. A hike up to Chimney Pond in Baxter Park resulted in some small studies for larger paintings, and I return to several favorite painting spots in the area each year.
My Maine home and studio are in the town of Cape Porpoise, overlooking a tidal salt marsh, and close to my favorite waterfalls which have provided much inspiration throughout the years.
